I love wearing earrings, but I’ve always had a hard time finding any that don’t make my ears itch or get red. It’s most likely the quality of the earrings I’ve been buying that is the real problem. I typically just go to a jewelry store aimed at teenage girls and buy the cheap cubic zirconias. Now that I’ve reached an age and job status that requires a professional and polished look, I am acknowledging the need to start buying earrings of a higher quality.
So, I’ve started researching nickel free earrings, also known as “hypo-allergenic” earrings. These are made for people with sensitive skin. Until I did this research, I didn’t know that the itching and redness I’d been experiencing could be due to a sensitivity or allergy to the metal alloy found in nickel. There are many jewelry designers and manufacturers that are now creating and selling lines of jewelry that are nickel free. Studies have proven that the nickel free jewelry keeps the wearer from experiencing the itching and burning so many of us complain about. Now I know what to buy the next time I go shopping!
